Phase 3 began with the purchase of FrontPage 98. Thanks to Microsoft and their - surprisingly - good web authoring package it acquired lots of additional pages and a colourful theme. FrontPage may not suit all you HTML purists out there but, for the likes of the short of time home web author, it got the new site up and running in no time, took care of the tricky business of publishing it and - most importantly - made it very easy to maintain. So, thank you Microsoft (never thought I'd be caught saying that in public ;-) ) and also thank you to Computer Fairs where I purchased my particular copy. Gosh! A thank you to Microsoft, an ad and a link in the same paragraph. Things are certainly a bit scary and on the edge in this Phase. In addition to the theme and extra pages, Phase 3 also saw the arrival of meta tags (FrontPage just does them - OK), some not so pure HTML, some original material plus links to sites of interest. There was a half hearted attempt to provide compelling and timely content via a Digest section, but after three months this jumped into virtual hyperspace. It's return is eagerly awaited. And finally... Phase 3 saw site development move from an Acorn RiscPC plus 5x86 PC card to a fully fledged Pentium multi-megahertz Windows thingy. Well, you can't have everything, can you? Got to move with the times... |
